Project Brief

Develop a solution for the States of Guernsey government to help manage it's property portfolio. The system must provide a consistent mechanism for recording of the buildings makeup and repair status with the current position as well as projections. Buildings must be able to be grouped together to form sites.

The software must allow for flexible reporting with reports suitable to assist in departmental budgets. System is initially to be rolled out to the Department of Education although the design must support additional departments and their potential requirements.

Data must be imported from the existing 80+ Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

Additionally the system must record the properties GeoCode to allow for a property to be located with the States of Guernsey's DigiMap system.

Solution Implemented

Particular care was spent with the database design to ensure that a flexible model was created to allow for the data to be held and reported on in a variety of ways.

Generic import routines were developed for taking the existing data from MS Excel into the new database structure. Data was then cleansed to ensure a consistent approach could be taken to the reporting.

Reports were key to this systems success and as such a flexible approach was taken to the deliver of the reporting suite. Reports could be all viewed, sorted and summarised at various levels of detail i.e. global, departmental, site or individual building.

Data access was all delivered as a separate DLL, security and authentication uses the Antelle standardised security components and applications.

Once complete system was handed over to Digimap Ltd for day to day support and end user training.
