Online Benchmarking Site for Worldwide Catering Operations

Project Brief

Design a web based solution for the worldwide catering industry. The site should be standards compliant, quick to load, ease to use with intuitive navigation.

The following key goals should be met:

Standards compliance.

Clean quick to load design.

Provide full registration and membership facilities.

Walk the users of the site through the complexity of entering the benchmarking data.

Credit card and payment service integration.

Create a PDF report detailing benchmarks showing descriptions, graphs etc.

Build a secure administration site to allow for the data to day operations of the site to carried out.

Convert the existing (MS Excel) based benchmarks to a MS SQL Server 2005 database.

Ensure that the site can support multiple languages at a future date.

Solution Implemented

The website was delivered as a ASP.Net 2 application making heavy use the Microsoft Membership Providers for registration and membership functions, with SQL Server 2005 at the backend.

Our first task was to design the database structure to support the two different strands of benchmarks (Staff Catering and UK Schools). The excel data was then converted into this new normalised structure and the administration site developed. The public elements of the site were then worked on next with extensive use of AJAX within the data entry pages to enhance the visitors user experience and ease validation.

WorldPay were chosen to provide the payment and credit card services and once the necessary SSL certicificates were in place was fully integrated into the site.

The sites striking design and logo was created by our talented friends at Satsu Design.
